A stitch in time for Glossop embroiderers

The Glossop & District Embroiderers’ Guild is having a display of bonnets made by members over the next two or three months for a project called Roses from the Heart. The project was started in Australia in memory of over 26,000 women ‘convicts’ who were shipped there in the 1800s, some for offences as minor as stealing a loaf of bread to feed their families.

22nd World Scout Jamboree

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree was held in Rinkaby, Sweden between 27th July and the 8th August. The theme for the Jamboree was Simply Scouting, over 40,000 Scouts from 146 different countries took part in the Jamboree.

Community spirit at Dinting Cricket Club

Dinting Cricket Club, the Simmondley Lane based side are on the up and up. Following a challenging season in 2010 the Committee have made swift steps to revolutionise their club both on and off the field.

thedreamscheme hits Glossopdale

Dreamscheme is a project that looks to get young people aged 8 – 19yrs involved in work-based activities that make a positive difference to the neighbourhoods that they live in. The time young people spend on the activities is rewarded with points which can be exchanged for various trips out that they themselves have chosen.

help us raise the next generation of guide dogs

Puppy Walkers are urgently needed in this area to help raise the next generation of guide dogs and get more blind and partially sighted people out and about.

Puppy Walkers take a young pup and would-be guide dog into their home from six weeks of age until the dog is just over a year-old. Their role is to familiarise the youngster with the things it will come across in everyday life when it’s working as a guide dog.

Sunday afternoon elderly tea parties need volunteers

There’s a group of people living in Glossopdale who many of us rarely see, the over-75s who live alone. Now a national charity is coming to Glossop to help out with monthly tea parties – and you can be part of it!
