22nd World Scout Jamboree

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree was held in Rinkaby, Sweden between 27th July and the 8th August. The theme for the Jamboree was Simply Scouting, over 40,000 Scouts from 146 different countries took part in the Jamboree.

4,000 Scouts attended from the United Kingdom and eight of those came from various Scout Groups within the Glossop District. These Scouts came together as one group and raised money to attend the Jamboree over an 18 month period by plate smashing at all the carnivals in the area, a fashion show, band nights, Santa Sleigh at Tescos and many more events.

The total cost of the Jamboree was £2,000 per participant of which they managed to fund raise £1575 thanks to the generosity of local organisations and individuals. Part of the total cost was used to sponsor scouts from Papa New Guinea, Armenia and Sierra Leone who would otherwise have been unable to attend.

The Scouts would like to take this opportunity to thank the following who helped support their fund raising efforts: Glossop Round Table, St Philip Howard Catholic Sports College, Glossop Old Band and Tescos.
