Aunty Agathas Garden

While I’m ever hopeful for some September sunshine, it’s kinder to one’s soul to accept the fact that autumn has arrived and we’re on the brink of winter. A great plus side of this time of year is that if you planted maincrop potatoes, they should now be ready.

It’s so rewarding to uproot potatoes. After harvesting, ensure
you remove all the tubers from the ground, or your planters, to prevent weed growth and blight next year and for dry hardened skins, leave your potatoes to dry in the sun for a day before storing.

As much as I love to eat crispy roast potatoes and creamy
mash, I also like to keep a potato in the fridge to ease dark circles under my eyes. Cut a couple of slices, lie down and place over your eyes for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and repeat regularly. The women in my family swear by it.
