Community spirit at Dinting Cricket Club
Dinting Cricket Club, the Simmondley Lane based side are on the up and up. Following a challenging season in 2010 the Committee have made swift steps to revolutionise their club both on and off the field.
Former Glossop Captain Adam Wilson is now leading the 1st X1 at the top of the Derbyshire and Cheshire League. The 2nd team are also flying high in the league and have just captured the clubs first silverware in 2011 by beating Birch Vale in the Hawke Trophy in front of 400 fans on Sunday. Away from the field the club has secured a partnership with local charity Willow Wood and 2011 has seen all involved with the club focus their efforts on achieving a £1000 fund raising target. Many events such as sponsored walks and car boot sales have kick-started the project. However, help from club sponsor Bodycheck and support from other businesses such as NTF Financial Solutions and Arundel Landscapes have really helped push towards the target Dinting has reinforced its community club status and wants to enhance this in 2012.
The current senior sides are made up of local players, the vast majority of which have come through the youth system at Dinting. The club wants to build on this winning formula and is investing heavily in its youth coaching scheme with a real focus on increasing playing numbers from the ages of 9 to 16. Tuesday nights will be the main coaching evening where several new level 2 qualified coaches will be taking organised sessions in an attempt to find the next budding England star.
